Dirty Truck Console

A customer called about detailing his 2009 Ford F-150 truck that he even admitted was his “work truck.”  Usually, when a customer admits that it’s a “work” vehicle, then the chances are very high that it’s not in the best of conditions and a good detail is needed.  I wanted to write a blog on this console because for one, it’s obviously very dirty, and two, because I wanted to show you the steps that I took to clean it.  There are lots of different ways to clean things, but I feel this method works very well.  As one can see, the persons dirty arm has caused a lot of build up of dirt, grime, and nastiness!

Cleaning Dirty Console

One of the most effective cleaners that I have found to be effective is Meguiars All Purpose Cleaner, shown being sprayed on the surface above.  This product diluted 10:1 is a very strong cleaner that doesn’t leave any residue behind after wiping.  It’s strong, yet mild at the same time, perfect for a detail.

After letting the product sit on the dirty console for a few minutes, you can see that the dirt is breaking down.  I usually let the product do most of the work, then wipe it off with a microfiber towel.

Steam Cleaning

To be on the positive side about doing the best job possible, one of my favorite tools is my vapor steamer.  This is an awesome tool designed for DEEP cleaning, and is used in severe conditions such as this dirty truck console.  I spray the steam on the dirty surface for a few seconds and within a nanosecond all of the dirt and grime has been broken free.  Always be careful not to let the steam stay on one section of the surface for two long.  The steam can damage the surface if it reaches too high of a temperature.  So be careful!

The photo above shows the finished product.  After a quick wipe with a microfiber towel after steaming, a huge difference has been made.  The console looks like new and the customer was thrilled.
