A polish is designed to remove minor surface imperfections such as scratches, spotting, and oxidation. There are many different products out there, but Auto Detail Doctor uses mainly Meguiars Professional Products. Polishes work with abrasives and/or chemical cleaners to flatten, or level, the surface. Some polishes are more aggressive than others. Polishes are not designed to add protection to the vehicle’s paint surface. They are designed to correct the paint. For example, a scratch in the clear coat can reflect light from its microscopic edges. That’s what makes it stand out from the surrounding area. A professional polish can smooth out, or level, the edges; reducing the amount of light the scratch reflects. In many cases, a polish can completely remove minor surface scratches and other imperfections to make the car’s paint look new, or, even better than new! There are a lot of choices in professional polishes, and I feel that Meguiars M105 is one of the best. Actually, Auto Detail Doctor uses almost all of its products exclusively from Meguiars.
Wax is designed to enhance and protect a previously polished surface. Car wax is a non-abrasive coating usually containing Carnauba and other waxes. It is applied after washing your car and dries to a thin, milky-white layer when applied properly and is then wiped or buffed off with a microfiber towel. The wax serves as a clear, shiny protective layer between the elements and the clear-coat that has been applied over the paint on your car. It fills in very tiny (microscopic) dimples in the clear-coat and will help them shine to near-showroom brightness. The protection is necessary to keep airborne pollutants, road film, acid rain, and other contaminants from sticking to the surface, causing potentially long term damage. Many times one will see a car where it appears the clear coat is peeling off the car. This is because of neglect from the vehicle’s owner. Regular waxing is essential to keep the shine and beauty of your car.
Auto Detail Doctor has both of these particular products in its arsenal. The Meguiars M105 is awesome. It has a heavy cut effect yet gives an excellent gloss. After I am finished with the M205, I go over the car with a lighter polish, usually Meguiars M205. Then, Blackfire Midnight Sun can be applied to give it that ultimate shine and give it some lasting protection.
