Jeep Cherokee detail with engine cleaning
The 2002 Jeep Cherokee had been sitting outside for the last several months. As a result, as you can see from the photo above and the one below, crab apples had eaten their way into the paint surface. Meanwhile, the owner of the Jeep is trying to sell it, so he called looking for a full detail, including the engine. He bought the Jeep about ten years ago while living in Arizona, and because of that, its condition clearly reflected that environment. Over time, the red clay and sand out there had embedded their way into the clear coat and especially under the hood. As shown below, you can see a close-up of the damage that the crab apples and grime had made on the hood.
Paint Condition and Surface Contamination
In the photo above, you can clearly see that the dirt and grime have been left on the paint surface for months. The owner mentioned that he “couldn’t remember” the last time he had washed the Jeep. The surface felt rough, similar to running your hand over sandpaper. It was not a pleasant sight!
Engine Condition Before Cleaning
Please take a look at the photo above. Talk about a dirty, filthy, and abused engine! You can see the red clay and sand sitting on the engine for years. I don’t believe anyone ever cleaned it. Dirt and grime were everywhere, so we knew this would be a tough job to make it look good, but not necessarily great.
Exterior Cleaning and Paint Decontamination
After washing the exterior of the Jeep with warm water to remove crabapples and dirt, we used a medium-grade Nanoskin Autoscrub to address the paint’s bad condition.
Engine Cleaning Process
We used a foam cannon to spray degreaser foam onto the engines for cleaning. Because the grime and dirt were so severe, we performed the process twice. As the degreaser worked, the dirt began to loosen its grip on the surface, especially the red clay embedded under the hood. As a result, the buildup started breaking down much more effectively, and the surface became much easier to work with. At that point, once the surface was ready, we rinsed the engine. After that, we dried it thoroughly and then applied a non-silicone engine dressing.
Removing Heavy Dirt and Grime
Look at the photo above, and you’ll see dirt and grime falling from the engine onto our shop floor. All of that dirt comes from the engine!
Engine Cleaning Results
The picture above depicts the spotless and intricately cleaned engine compartment of the Jeep, showcasing a remarkable transformation.
Final Results and Vehicle Value
Here is the finished product. After cleaning the floor, we took photos of the Jeep. The difference was dramatic. The owner loved the results and even raised the original asking price.
